Teacher and nine pupils injured when classroom floor collapses - Spain

Teacher and nine pupils injured when classroom floor collapses: NINE children and a teacher were injured yesterday (Friday) when the floor of a primary school in Santa Pola (Alicante) caved in.

It happened just after 09.00hrs, when the teacher was taking the register for her class of eight-year-olds at the Hispanidad school, which is a State-run centre.

She fell into a hole in between tables, and nine children went with her.

Four children and the teacher were taken to Elche General Hospital with multiple bruising, but no broken bones, and another five were treated at the local health centre.

Several pupils needed to be treated for panic attacks and shock.
