The Enquirer :: Roof collapses as flames engulf row of shops: Fire crews were called to The Triangle in Langdon Hills near Basildon at 1.50pm to tackle the blaze in the roof of a shop.

The fire is now affecting the entire shopping centre and the roof of the centre partially collapsed just before 3.30pm. Plumes of smoke are reaching 30ft in the air.

Crews from Basildon and Orsett are on the scene and the aerial ladder platform will be used as a water tower to tackle the blaze from above.

Residents have been warned to keep their doors and windows closed to prevent the thick smoke being created by the fire from entering their homes.
