Maritime Professional - No safety net for mainland workers hurt on duty: When it comes to shocking statistics, China is the undisputed heavyweight champion. Take these stats in a South China Morning Post report called “Maimed in China” that looked at worker safety in the Factory of the World.
According to a Shenzhen research outfit, 60,000 of the 30 million migrant workers in Guangdong Province were disabled by industrial accidents every year. One worker-turned-activist who lost three fingers in an accident said the factory epicenter of Dongguan and Foshan had the most cases. He said there were huge departments for hand and arm reattachment surgery in every township hospital in Dongguan.
