Flaws discovered in 6 elevators / Govt inspections question adequacy of Schindler's maintenance checks : National : DAILY YOMIURI ONLINE (The Daily Yomiuri): Brake parts in six Schindler Elevator K.K. elevators, which are all the same type as one involved in a fatal accident at a Kanazawa hotel earlier this year, were not appropriately maintained, according to inspection results by the infrastructure ministry.
The Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry on Wednesday announced the results of its emergency inspections of 84 elevators of the same type as the one in the Kanazawa hotel.
Sensors to detect brake pad abnormalities were disconnected from lines in two of the the six flawed elevators, according to the ministry.
Next, the ministry will question Schindler about whether the firm's maintenance checks for the elevators were sufficient, ministry officials said.
