Transport and recycling company fined for illegal waste operation

Environment Agency - Transport and recycling company fined for illegal waste operation: A Bristol company has been ordered to pay �13,218 in fines and costs for tipping hundreds of tonnes of contaminated waste at the site of a former concrete recycling works near Keynsham.

The case was brought by the Environment Agency.

Agency officers visited the old Queen Charlton Concrete Works in Charlton Field Lane in March 2011 after a member of the public reported that waste contaminated with plastic was being brought to the site.

A court heard that Bristol & Avon Transport & Recycling Ltd had an environmetal permit that allowed it to deposit certain types of controlled waste including soil and stones at the site so it could be returned to Greenbelt land suitable for agriculture. The company was not permitted to import any waste that might cause pollution.
