Two labourers die in wall collapse, while trying to remove asbestos - The Times of India

CHENNAI: Two labourers died and two others escaped with minor injuries when a wall of a building collapsed at Nethaji Nagar near Tondiarpet on Saturday. Police have arrested the house owner, Jamal Mohammad, on charges of negligence.

The accident happened at 9.15am when four men were trying to remove asbestos sheets from the roof of the house. The uninhabited building has a closed shop facing the street and six other small rooms.

Mohammad, who lives on Nethaji Nagar 4th Street, had employed four labourers to remove the asbestos sheet. Two labourers climbed over the asbestos and two others stood underneath. As the work was on, a wall came down, crushing the two men on the ground. Labourers Paneerselvam, 50, and Ezhumalai, 40, of Ezhil Nagar in Kodungaiyur were trapped under the debris.
