Rat infestation sees Chinese takeaway fined

A CHINESE takeaway has been fined more than £1,000 after pleading guilty to food hygiene offences following a rat infestation.

Rat droppings were found in the food store area, toilet, kitchen and back yard where food equipment was stored at the Fortune Garden in Tile Hill Lane last year.

Environmental health officers visited the takeaway after receiving a complaint of rats running around the back yard.

They also found mouse droppings in the food store area and ants running over the shelves and squashed in the sugar and flour bin.

Inspectors said the back door was kept open throughout the evening which had potentially provided entry for the rodents.

The owners pleaded guilty to three food hygiene offences and were fined a total of £600 at Coventry Magistrates Court.
