China: Fire at gold mine kills 10 on same day as coal mine collapses, burying 3
BEIJING, China - Chinese state media say 10 miners have died and 28 others have been injured after a fire broke out at a gold mine in northeastern China.
The official Xinhua News Agency says the miners were poisoned by carbon monoxide that built up in the mine from the fire early Tuesday.
Xinhua says an initial investigation found faulty electric wiring caused the fire. Of the 28 injured, one is in critical condition. Nineteen people were rescued from the mine in Jilin province's Huadian city.
