Bingo firm fined after car park barrier crashes through pensioner's windscreen in Erdington - Birmingham Mail
The company that runs Erdington’s Gala Bingo has been fined £25,000 following the accident, which left 80-year-old Kenneth Compton with a fractured eye socket, cuts and bruises.
Mr Compton was leaving the Kingsbury Road venue when the barrier suddenly dropped, crashing through the screen in June, 2011, sparking a Birmingham City Council investigation.
A council spokeswoman said: “The security barrier had not been secured properly with a padlock and skimmed off the bonnet of the car and through the windscreen, striking Mr Compton on the head.
