17 killed in coal mine accident in China




BEIJING, 6 DEC: Seventeen people were killed and six others injured in a coal mine accident in China's southwestern Yunnan Province.

A total of 66 miners were working underground when a coal and gas blast occurred yesterday in a shaft of the Shangchang Coal Mine in Huangheni Township of Fuyuan County.

Sixteen miners were killed on the spot and one died on the way to the hospital, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
