Walter Watson, the Director of a Fraserburgh company was today fined 2,500 at Peterhead Sheriff Court for illegally disposing of sewage sludge containing sanitary products and other waste in a field on his farm used for growing animal feed.
Watson pled guilty to disposing of unscreened sewage tank sludge without the authority of a waste management licence at his farm at North Park, Lonmay, Fraserburgh on 14 January 2011.
Watson is the sole director of A1 Clear Drainage & Plumbing Solutions Ltd which is licensed to treat and screen septic tank sludge under the authority of a waste management licence. In January last year during a routine inspection at his farm by officers of the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) unscreened slurry was seen to have been spread across a field. Watson was given the opportunity to clear the materials by SEPA and failed to do so.
